The Jazz (44-28) hold a 1 1/2-game lead over the Clippers (43-30) for the fourth seed and homecourt advantage in the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs. The Oklahoma City Thunder, who are a game behind the Clippers, and the Memphis Grizzlies, who trail Los Angeles by 2 1/2 games, also remain in contention for the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. "Yeah, this time of the year, losses I think impact you a little bit more because you can actually see the standings and see the race come down to the final however many games it's going to be," Clippers forward Blake Griffin told the Los Angeles Times.

With his team's playoff odds shrinking, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle is quickly transitioning into experimentation mode with a young and fluid roster to get a head start on next season. The lineup paid immediate dividends in a 97-95 victory over a Los Angeles Clippers team that had plenty to play for as it tries to catch the No. 4-seed Utah Jazz. Curry led all scorers with 23 points and Noel had eight points and 12 rebounds matched against Clippers center DeAndre Jordan.

With the Mavs holding a 63-58 lead over the visiting Clips at American Airlines Center, Griffin and center DeAndre Jordan sidled up to the diminutive Barea to set a double-screen allowing point guard Chris Paul to get downhill and start attacking into the teeth of the Dallas defense. It?s a set we?ve seen L.A. run countless times, except this time, the Mavericks point guard took exception to Blake shoving his hand away and giving him an extra bump as he worked his way into screening position.

While the odds are slim at best, the New Orleans Pelicans have mustered hope for crashing the Western Conference postseason party with five wins in six games. When the Pelicans visit the Houston Rockets (49-22) on Friday night at Toyota Center, they will be four games behind the Denver Nuggets for eighth in the West. The Pelicans (30-41) would have to leapfrog the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers before even considering bypassing the Nuggets, with the website Basketball Reference placing their postseason odds at a meager 1.3 percent.

Gobert scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and the Utah Jazz rallied from 13 down to defeat the New York Knicks 108-101. ''I'm working,'' Gobert said with a smirk.

The Los Angeles Clippers will head into their Thursday matchup against the Dallas Mavericks with utmost urgency to grab a fourth consecutive win and keep the pressure on the Utah Jazz. The Clippers (43-29) are making a strong move for the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference playoff chase. Currently the Jazz hold that spot, but it could well be up for grabs when the Clippers return home for Saturday's matinee matchup against Utah.

Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan, Hall of Fame point guard John Stockton, Bryon Russell, Greg Ostertag and others were in attendance. The game was scheduled against the New York Knicks so coach Jeff Hornacek, who was a member of the team, could participate.

Jeff Hornacek yells at 2018 addition John Salley to come meet the entry pass. It looks like New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson and, by extension, Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek have gotten one more chance. For whatever reason, the Knicks appear to have announced their offense for the 2017-18 season and, Jackson certainly hopes, beyond.

Up until Monday night, most fans had no idea who Semaj Christon was or that he was even in the NBA. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard went through most of his rookie season without any fanfare outside of his hometown of Cincinnati. "It was just a little pushing and shoving," Christon said.

Paul George, like the rest of us, wonders what?s going on in Indy. Three years ago, we knew exactly who and what the Indiana Pacers were. Head coach Frank Vogel preached smash-mouth two-way basketball built around length and toughness at every position, predicated on the presence of an immovable deterrent on one end of the floor and the ascent of a transcendent talent on the other.

Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey feels he knows the solution of the riddle that the Chicago Bulls have been for his team. The Bulls go into Tuesday's game against the Raptors at the Air Canada Centre having won 11 in a row against Toronto, including twice this season. The answer, Casey feels, is provided by the way the Raptors dominated the Indiana Pacers 116-91 Sunday night.

LeBron James sits in Los Angeles. The defending champions beat the Los Angeles Lakers by 25 on Sunday night, and the crew could hardly be bothered. This might be a case of the Cleveland Cavaliers protesting too much, but it truly does feel as if the team isn?t concerned with what appears to be your overwhelming concern with the Cavs and other top squads resting players in anticipation of what could be a two-month playoff run.

Despite a win over the short-handed Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers acknowledged his club is struggling. "I think this team believes when right, and playing right, we can play with anybody, but we have not been a consistent team this year," Rivers said. The Clippers (41-29) will try to ease their frustrations when they play the New York Knicks on Monday at Staples Center.

There were 10 coaching changes in the NBA during this past offseason, an unusually high number. With less than a month remaining in the regular season, all 30 coaches who started back in October are still in their jobs. After getting trounced in their previous home game, Raptors coach Dwane Casey apologized to the fans and called out his players for a lack of effort. On Sunday, after his Raptors did the trouncing in a 116-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers, Casey was full of praise. Karl Malone and Tom Brokaw talk up the Greatest Generation, which included Adam Keefe. The ABC-broadcast ?Saturday Showcase? was scuttled in the ratings not just by Caleb Swanigan?s work in the low post or Middle Tennessee?s move to make a game out of its contest against Butler, but by the decision from Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue to rest LeBron James while sitting out stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love due to legitimate, if previously conquered, injuries.
